21st Annual Oakland Invitational Relays Story

Goldman Field, Edwards Stadium

University of California

Berkeley

Saturday, April 1, 2000

By Keith Conning

Volunteers run this meet. The proceeds benefit the track programs in the Oakland Public School District. This was the first high school invitational on the new Goldman Field in Edwards Stadium. The new track and field is great, but the remainder of the stadium is a disaster zone. There was no electricity. There was no public address system. Oakland had to bring in a portable sound system run by a generator, which couldn't be heard very well. The t-shirt vendor also provided his own generator. The men's bathroom was filthy. This is one of the finest universities in the world, but they certainly don't take care of this historic facility.
